About Us
When King Khalid, may Allah have mercy on him, noticed the
difficulties that Saudi citizens were facing while traveling abroad to receive
medical and surgical treatment for eye diseases, he, may Allah have mercy on
him, realized his country’s need for an integrated medical center for treatment
and research specializing in ophthalmology.
In the late seventies, King Khaled, may Allah have mercy on
him, and his council ministers proposed the idea of establishing a special
ophthalmology center that would serve the entire Middle East region, and in
August 1979, a royal order was issued to build King Khaled Eye Specialist
Hospital, which rose to be classified among the best hospitals in the world.
The government donated a land area of 2.5 km² on the northwestern border of the
city of Riyadh to implement the project.
King Khaled, may Allah have mercy on him, closely followed
the process of establishing the hospital, the first phase of which was
completed by June 1981 AD, during which most of the hospital departments, the
mosque, the 22 residential villas, the six residential buildings, each
consisting of five floors, and a service center were completed. Residential
complex and tennis courts. The second phase was completed in late 1982, during
which the rest of the hospital departments were built, roads were constructed,
gardens were beautified, and the rest of the residential units were built. The
hospital began operating in December 1982.
But King Khaled, may Allah have mercy on him, passed away
before the completion of the construction of the hospital, which was officially
opened by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al
Saud, may Allah have mercy on him, in November 1983 AD.
